Final bell tolls for old school

COMING down . . . the building is reduced to rubble
THE end has finally come for a Werneth school which has seen thousands of pupils pass through its classrooms over the years.
Our picture shows the former St Augustine of Canterbury RC High School, also the old St Anselm’s School, reduced to near rubble as demolition work takes place.
Blessed John Henry Newman RC College replaced St Augustine and Our Lady’s high schools which merged in 2010 and operated from the Werneth and Royton sites.
That was before moving to a new £30million state-of-the-art building on Broadway, Chadderton, last September.
