464 drink-drive arrests
Date published: 11 January 2013
GREATER Manchester Police arrested 51 more motorists in December’s Drink Drive campaign than last year, despite doing fewer breath tests.
During the crackdown officers carried out 11,230 breath tests and arrested 464 drivers.
Of those arrested, the same number as last year - 78 - had been involved in collisions. Six people were arrested for drug driving, down by 28 on December 2011.
Inspector John Armfield said: “Our determination to target those suspected of drink driving has paid dividends. I would urge the public to continue to provide information - doing so can help to save lives.
“The advice to motorists remains the same throughout the year — if you are having a drink, don’t drive.”
