A determined Latics fan staged a desperate internet campaign when his wife banned him from watching the boys in blue take on Liverpool.
Season ticket holders Michael Barrett and sons Max (8) and Oscar (5) were delighted when Latics drew the Premiership giants at Boundary Park in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday, January 27.
But the family had booked a holiday at Ribby Hall, near Blackpool, for the same weekend to celebrate wife Joanne’s birthday — and she wasn’t about to let them brak the weekend to watch the game.
So Michael took to Facebook in a bid to gather support!
He posted a picture of Max looking devastated and encouraged Latics fans to bombard Joanne with messages urging her to allow the boys to go.
And bombard her they did - so much so that Joanne relented — and plans an afternoon in a spa while they stand in the cold at Boundary Park.
An elated Michael said: “There was no way I was missing this match, I’ve been watching Latics since I was a child. Max was absolutely devastated when his mum said we couldn’t go. He didn’t speak to her for two days.
“I didn’t tell Joanne I was putting it on Facebook so she was really annoyed when she started getting messages from people she didn’t even know. We’ll be there and back in four hours. She won’t even know we’re gone!”
