Film giant’s end-credits
Date published: 17 January 2013
DVD rental giant Blockbuster UK has gone into administration — putting more than 4,000 jobs at risk nationwide.
The chain, which also hires computer games, has stores in Ashton Road, Oldham; and Oldham Road, Failsworth.
The Uxbridge–based business opened its first store in London in 1989 and has 528 outlets with over 4,000 staff.
Deloitte, which is handling the administration, said the move was driven by competition from internet-based companies.
The collapse caps a bleak week for the high street: CD and DVD giant HMV went into administration on Monday.
