Bus station crossing ‘still a danger spot’

THE daughter of a woman who died after being hit by a bus has warned the crossing is still a danger zone.

Sharon Kerridge (42) marked the sixth anniversary of her 56-year-old mother Ann’s death yesterday by fastening flowers to the railings at Cheapside bus station, close to where her mother’s accident occurred.

Two high-risk crossings, including the one where her mother died, have been replaced by safer ones; Sharon wants to see a third crossing, near the Candlelight Club, removed. Oldham coroner Simon Nelson attributed the death to a blind spot and the station layout.

“You think you are safe on a crossing, but you aren’t if it’s a blind spot for drivers,” said Sharon.
