Academy must try harder — report
Date published: 29 January 2013
WATERHEAD Academy has been told it must do better following its first OFSTED inspection.
The Huddersfield Road school, which opened in 2010, scored an overall rating of grade three, which means it requires improvement.
Inspectors observed 37 lessons and said recent measures of the students’ progress are below national expectations, and attendance below average.
Managers have been successful in improving student behaviour and examination results, but some measures are recent and haven’t yet had much impact, the report states.
Academy principal Nigel McQuoid said: “While we’re pleased with the many positive aspects of the latest inspection, we of course recognise that more challenges lie ahead to establish Waterhead as an outstanding school.”
