Charity cash stolen in RSPCA shop raid
Date published: 01 February 2013
A thief stole charity boxes and petty cash at Shaw’s RSPCA store.
The Market Street shop was broken into late on Sunday night and two charity boxes — with an unknown amount of cash in them, as well as a £50 and some petty cash were taken.
Manager Karen Zehlin said: “We’re not sure how much was taken because we don’t know how much was in the charity boxes. It’s bad enough to take the float and petty cash but to take a clearly marked charity box is horrible.
“There’s very little we can do now, it’s the local area and local animal centre which will suffer which is a shame. You tend to think you’re safe being a charity shop and serving the community, you tend to think people will respect that. The public has been very kind and brought us some donations of things to sell. The people of Shaw always support us very well. “The break-in leaves a very sour taste.”
