A third struck off incapacity benefit
Date published: 01 February 2013
NEARLY a third of all people on incapacity benefits in Oldham have been reassessed as capable of work.
Another 1,240 have been told they will be expected to return to work when they are able. Another 100 yet to have a decision made.
Only 580 now remain of the original 2,810 claimants recognised as being too ill or disabled to work, says a Department for Work and Pensions report.
Those ruled fit to work will get long-term help from Jobcentre Plus and the Work Programme rather than sickness benefits.
