Officer denies assault

AN Oldham police officer denied assaulting a man in custody when he appeared at Manchester city magistrates on Friday.
Sgt Richard Miller is accused of attacking a 32-year-old man in the custody suite at Chadderton police station in the early hours of last July 15. He pleaded not guilty to a charge of common assault.
He was bailed ahead of a two-day trial on May 14. Greater Manchester Police has referred the case to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
