We’d like to teach the world to... sign!

PUPILS from across Oldham went into the record books using sign language to “sing” songs.
The boys and girls from Roundthorn, Mayfield, Hodge Clough, Bare Trees, Higher Failsworth and Werneth took part in the sign2sing challenge along with 800 other schools to raise money for the charity SignHealth.
Classes have used video tutorials and animated whiteboard programmes to learn how to sign along to “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing”, which was performed by all the pupils at the same time to attempt to break the world record for the number of people signing at the same time — and they did it.
Alison Saville, of the Oldham Music Service, was on hand at Mayfield to encourage those who took part to keep up the special skill, and said the children were “brilliant”.
They also donated to the charity, which helps transform the lives of vulnerable deaf children and adults across the country.
