IT’S the news Latics fans have been waiting for: Boundary Park is to be a four-sided stadium again.
A planning application has finally been submitted to Oldham Council for a new stand on the Broadway side of the ground.
If plans are approved, the stand will be built as part of a package of improvements with support from the council.
The news comes the day before Latics take on Premier League giants Everton in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The stand is the first phase of development planned for Boundary Park and includes seating for 2,500 fans, a supporters’ bar, a 500-seat conference suite, offices, a coffee shop, a health and leisure centre and a new car park.
Latics chairman Simon Corney said: “We’re delighted to have reached this stage in our plans to regenerate the current stadium and — subject to approval — we are looking forward to working with the council.
“It has been a long process but we had to get it right. Our fans have been so patient — it’s time to deliver the stadium Oldham needs and deserves.”
If approved, the aim is to start work during the summer and complete the work for the start of the 2014 season.
