“MONEY — that’s what I want” sang the Beatles — and The Threetles have raked it in for charity.
Fans of the Fab Four packed out the former Astoria to see the Oldham tribute act raise over £2,200, to be split between Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and Saddleworth CAFE (Cancer Aid For Everyone) Support Group.
A 500-strong crowd — including half a dozen who saw the original Beatles play in Oldham back in 1963 — danced the night away.
Even Tony Prince — the famous Oldham DJ who was at the event in ’63 — returnde to host the event and received a standing ovation.
Threetles bass guitarist, Paul Brierley, said the night was “absolutely brilliant.”
“Everyone had a great night — there was loads of dancing. We even sang happy birthday to a lady who was 65.
“We only aimed to raise £1,000 so to get over £2,200 is great.”
