Corrie’s Kev: I’ll fight charges
Date published: 18 February 2013
Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell has pledge to fight child sex offences.
He has said in a statement he is innocent of all charges and will “fight them vigorously”.
Le Vell (48), real name Michael Turner, is accused of 19 sex offences including raping a child, indecently assaulting a child and sexual activity with a child.
He said: “I will now put all my efforts into clearing my name. I thank my friends, family and fans for their continued support. I would ask now for time to concentrate on preparing my defence with my legal team.”
ITV says the actor will not be appearing in further episodes pending the outcome of legal proceedings.
Le Vell trained at Oldham Theatre Workshop and is formerly of Saddleworth. He will appear in court in two weeks.
Le Vell was first arrested in September 2011, but the matter was dropped. Late on Thursday night the actor, now of Hale, Cheshire, was charged after a review of evidence by the Crown Prosecution Service.
