£3,000 fine for dodgy lights

A WHOLESALER has been handed a shock after selling unsafe Christmas light decorations in Oldham — namely a £3,000 fine.
Oldham Council prosecuted Blackburn-based Brookhouse Ltd for supplying the lights, foudn on sale at a local shop and traced back to the supplier, which hadn’t done any electrical safety testing.
Samples of the lights tested by the council’s Trading Standards service were found to have a risk of fire and electric shock.
Brookhouse (Blackburn) Ltd was found guilty by Oldham Magistrates of two offences of supplying unsafe electrical items. The company was fined £3,000 and ordered to pay costs of £1,229.34.
