Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell was to make his first appearance in court today accused of child sex offences.

Le Vell (48) has been charged with 19 offences including raping a child, indecently assaulting a child and sexual activity with a child.

The actor, who plays car mechanic Kevin Webster in the ITV soap, was to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court under his real name of Michael Turner.

The Crown Prosecution Service claims the offences were committed against a child between 2001 and 2010.

The father of two is one of TV’s most famous faces.

The actor will not appear in further episodes of the soap until the trial is over.
