A ROYTON man is preparing to run 84 miles along Hadrian’s Wall in under 24 hours for charity.
Michael Harrison (34) hopes to make it from Bowness-on-Solway in the west to Wallsend in the east in less than a day in aid of Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
A runner for 10 years, Michael has completed several marathons over the years, but this is his biggest challenge.
He said: “I wanted to do something special to mark a decade of running and I was inspired by shows on TV to do it for charity. It’s the furthest I’ve ever thought about running.”
The Royton Road Runners member has been doing 70 miles a week in training and hopes to raise that to 100 miles a week soon
“It’s about pacing and endurance not speed — but my legs still feel like lead after a long run,” he admitted.
The hairdresser and father-of-one has support from volunteers who help with transport, food, clothes and supplies. Some have offered to run part of the way with him.
With around £1,000 already raised in sponsorship money, Michael is hoping to double it before the run.
