Bird’s eye view of Metrolink
Date published: 04 March 2013
CHRONICLE photographer Chris Sunderland got a bird’s eye view of the ongoing Metrolink works when he took to the sky with his camera.
Chris won the hour-long flight on the light aircraft in a raffle at the Jubilee Colliery open day so he decided to mix business and pleasure and capture the progressing construction project.
He captured the ever-changing Manchester Road roundabout as engineers complete the extension of the current line to take tram travel through the town centre by 2014.
Fellow Chronicle photographer Tony Miller paid a visit to the new tram stop in Middleton Road.
After reaching Manchester Road roundabout from the new King Street stop, the tram will head down Featherstall Road before reconnecting with the current line at Freehold.
Last week, the line was extended to allow trams to reach Milnrow and Rochdale from Oldham.
