Gas leak shuts school
Date published: 06 March 2013
A GAS leak forced Diggle Primary to close its doors to its 191 pupils yesterday.
Staff and children were evacuated to near-by Kiln Green Church when gas was detected near a meter in the cellar at 8.35am.
Only 26 pupils were in the Sam Road primary at the time and parents were notified immediately of the closure.
Head teacher Angela Covey said: “Fortunately we do not open our doors until 8.40am and we just had some children at our before-school club.
“We had to evacuate the school and close it. Everything went according to our evacuation plan and our parents have been absolutely brilliant.”
The school re-opened today.
