Children get into character

STUDENTS at The Radclyffe School took part in fun reading and writing activities for World Book Day.
A live online streaming of the “Biggest Book Show on Earth” gave pupils the opportunity to listen to nine top authors and illustrators, including Tony Robinson, Anthony Horowitz and Cathy Cassidy, answer questions and give their top tips on storytelling.
Pupils from Freehold Primary School also visited the Chadderton school and joined in with a story-writing project.
Others took part in a library quiz, encouraging students to hunt through books around the school, finding answers in the hope of winning a prize.
Inspired by what they had read throughout the day, pupils in every year group set about creating their own short stories to be entered into competitions online.
The staff also got involved with the fun, dressing up as their favourite book characters and encouraging students to read whatever they enjoy.
English teacher Helen Sharpe said: “We have lots of students who are really enthusiastic readers and writers of great stories.
“World Book Day is a brilliant way to celebrate the thrill of reading and inspire people to pick up a book.”
Pupils also received a voucher which they can use to get a free copy of one of eight children’s titles from local bookshops or save £1 on a book of their choice.
