POLICE chiefs have pledged their support to Oldham Home Watch, calling the volunteers their “eyes and ears” in the fight against crime.
Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd and Oldham’s Divisional Commander Chief Supt Catherine Hankinson met the Home Watch members as they set out the future vision for the scheme across the borough.
The meeting, also attended by neighbourhood officers, brought together representatives from Home Watch schemes across the borough and was a chance for them to air their concerns and discuss how Home Watch can be strengthened.
Mr Lloyd said: “Neighbourhood policing only works if the community is on board and Home Watch plays a central role in achieving this.
“Home Watch members are pillars of the community, the eyes and ears of our neighbourhoods, which is why they are such a vital link between local people and the police.
“Listening to Home Watch members in Oldham, it was clear that they are passionate about their community.
“That’s why it’s important to have frank and open meetings like these, so I and the police can not only listen to their concerns but also work together with Home Watch members to address those concerns and build on the partnership working.”
