End of a breakfast era for Penky

REVOLUTION 96.2FM owner Steve Penk presented his last breakfast show today — after making the shock announcement only yesterday.

After five years at the station, the dad of three is finding the pressure to run a daily station at Sarah Moor Studios tough and wants to spend more time with his family in Surrey.

Drive time presenter Elliot Eastwick will move to an extended breakfast slot until 11am, which he will co-present with Jackie O’Malley. The new schedule will also see a new slot for Penk’s friend, Alan Nield, who will be presenting Big Al’s Bit in the Middle from 11am-2pm, with Brendan Kearney taking over from 2pm-7pm.

“When you’re the CEO, the music director, the programme director and a presenter, those are each full time jobs and I’ve been doing them all for five years,” Penk said. “I can’t carry on doing that.

“I never set out thinking I’d just do six months or a year and then leave — I wanted it to run its course and now it is the right time.”

“I’ll still own the business and be up in Oldham for all the sales meetings and the running of the programme, I just won’t be presenting breakfast anymore. I want to find a better life-work balance.”

The controversial DJ bought the station in 2008 after making his name at Key 103.
