SIGNING OFF: Denis Irwin, pictured with his children, waves to the crowd at his testimonial against a Manchester City X1 side in 2000
Former Oldham Athletic player Denis Irwin is included in a Manchester United legends side to play former Real Madrid stars in a charity fundraiser.
Fans recovering from this year’s dramatic Champions’ League defeat by the Spanish side will be treated to another thrilling clash between the two footballing giants for the Manchester United Foundation.
The near–telepathic strike partnership between Andrew Cole and Dwight Yorke will be reunited for the match, which will also feature Irwin, who was at Latics from 1986 until joining the Reds in 1990.
The Real Madrid legends include Emilio Butragueno, Amancio Amaro and Manolo Sanchis at the “Red Heart United” event on June 2.
The former United captain said: “All the lads have been training hard and we will be introducing some new faces to the team this year. Red Heart United is going to be a brilliant day out for the family.”
All proceeds will help to fund projects to help disadvantaged young people in Greater Manchester.
