Up to £75,000 for primary school head

THE academy taking over the failing Richmond primary school is offering up to £75,000 for its new principal.

E-ACT will run the large Oldham primary - placed in special measurers by Ofsted last summer - from September. E-ACT runs 31 academies, including Oldham Academy North.

Only four years ago richmond was rated as outstanding. The principal’s post at the new primary school academy has been advertised at £66,000-£75,000, plus a performance-related bonus.

Tony Harrison, branch secretary of Oldham National Union of Teachers said: “The pay of head teachers in academies is normally significantly higher than for other schools, but this really is quite high.

“Most of the evidence suggests academies perform no better and no worse than other schools.

“We have no problem with heads being paid well, but it’s ironic at this time when teachers are having to take industrial action to protect their own pay.”
