OLDHAM is getting tough on people who blight the borough with dumped waste.
The council says it can’t afford to keep cleaning up after the minority of people responsible. A new long-term programme is being introduced.
This will be piloted for eight to 10 weeks in West Oldham from this month, before being introduced elsewhere.
The council says that it has become a “social norm” for some people to dump waste in back alleys.
Enforcement teams will work together on the project, which will identify the worst hot spots.
A deep clean will be carried out and letters sent to residents telling them that it is not acceptable to dump waste.
Fines will follow if the problems persist
