Baked creations scoop top award for Delph baker
MOUTHWATERING cakes created by a baker for her first competition have scooped three top prizes.

Judges at Cake International in Manchester were impressed by treats made by Hazel Jenkins of The Hazelnut Bakery in Delph.

Hazel won the gold award for her cupcakes — one of only two entries to do so. The chocolate cakes — based on “The Secret Garden”, one of Hazel’s favourite childhood books — featured delicate icing in the shape of ornate doors and keys alongside piped blades of grass, butterflies and roses.

“I was incredibly pleased with such a fantastic result,” she said. “The judges said they stood out from the rest of the entries — and tasted as good as they looked.”

The self-taught cake artist polished off her first competition by winning two silver awards for her wedding cake designs.

The event, which took place at EventCity, featured baking celebrities such as Mary Berry and last year’s Great British Bake Off winner John Whaite.
