ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour in Failsworth has been cut by 21.4 per cent in a year.
Insp Muzemil Kernain said the number of incidents was down to 1,436.
A multi-agency approach had been used to tackle the problem, involving police working with businesses on the Oldham Road retail park and residents, encouraging the reporting of incidents.
He said there was a significant improvement after sending letters to the parents of those young people involved in the anti-social behaviour and no one who was in receipt of a letter has been part of the problems since.
He said: “We have also been successful in dealing with spikes of domestic burglaries in the area and there have been 64 fewer than last year.”
Insp Kernain added that they have successfully adapted to the new Integrated Neighbourhood Policing Team that they are part of and are able to work with greater flexibility to tackle crime in the area.
He added: “Officers are now given a proactive day where they are away from the radio and are able to tackle specific crimes in the community such as drugs or vehicle crime.”
