A FAILSWORTH woman has been honoured for her dedication to girlguiding over the last 37 years with a prestigious award.
Enid Bell, divisional commander for the North Manchester Division of Girlguiding, was presented with The Laurel Award by Sue Lomas, the region’s chief commissioner.
Enid first showed her girl power when she became involved in guiding with the 17th NE Manchester Brownie Group in Failsworth in 1976.
She has been a dedicated volunteer ever since.
The 67-year-old said: “I am extremely proud to have received this award.
“I have gained so much out of guiding through the years. Over my years as a volunteer, I have seen guiding change as the lives of girls has changed.
“I would like to dedicate this award to all of the girls I have had the pleasure of knowing over the last 37 years because watching them grow and achieve has been an incredibly rewarding experience.”
New rainbow and brownie units have been established in Failsworth thanks to Enid’s support and she has been integral in helping 500 girls to get off the waiting lists across Manchester.
