AN investigation has been launched after claims it took too long for an ambulance to reach an eight-year-old boy, who later died.
Clayton Barker from Hathershaw, died on March 14, following an asthma attack at his grandmother’s home in Derker.
He was unable to get relief from his inhaler and collapsed.
His mum, Gemma Barker, said she was angry that the ambulance took more than half an hour to arrive at the address.
Oldham Borough Taxis driver Toqhir Hussain, who had some basic first aid training, said he was doing CPR for 20 minutes before any paramedics arrived.
The cause of death is not yet known.
Gemma said: “My mum gave the police the times that we called. I am considering making a formal complaint.
“I think Clayton would still be with us today if the ambulance had been quicker.”
A North-West Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the family during this very difficult time.
“Although no formal complaint has yet been received by the Trust, the incident is the subject of an internal investigation and we will share our findings with the family as soon as possible.”
