IT might not seem ideal to be holding a market stall on the snow-covered roads of Saddleworth . . . but it is if you’re selling skis.
Hulme Grammar School pupil Finlay Scott (15) took advantage of the white stuff to try out a pair of skis his school were selling on a charity stall.
The market is a tradition that goes back almost 800 years with stall holders gathering at Road End, Greenfield, to keep the historical venture going yesterday.
Several stall-holders braved the biting winds and unseasonal wintry weather to set up shop for the Maundy Thursday market ritual that stretches back to 1215.
The right to have the annual event is enshrined in the Magna Carta, making it one of the country’s oldest thriving traditions.
George and his school colleagues were selling items to raise money for a trip to Ghana as part of the World Challenge Expedition.
Another stall saw paintings being sold in aid of Oldham Disability Arts.
