WORKMEN put the beautifully carved new owl on its pearch at Failsworth metrolink stop
WHAT a hoot! Tram passengers in Failsworth are delighted to see the return of a prized local landmark.
An intricately carved wooden owl at the entrance to Failsworth metrolink station was stolen last month.
The sculpture was carved by local artist Andy Burgess from a tree felled to make way for the line.
Upset members of the public contacted the Chronicle over the missing owl — so Metrolink bosses asked Andy to make a replacement.
MPT project director Bryan Diggins said: “We were disappointed to hear of its flight in March. We’re very grateful for support from Oldham Council and Transport for Greater Manchester in allowing us to replace the piece. We hope that it will be as much enjoyed as its predecessor.”
