Parrot police wing in to find stolen Arnie
Date published: 05 April 2013
A specialist national animal theft investigator has launched a mission to find Arnie, the stolen African grey parrot.
An Asperger syndrome sufferer had two parrots stolen during a burglary in Hathershaw at the end of January. though one was recovered, the second — Arnie the African Grey —is still missing despite a £400 reward. The owner is pining for his return.
Former detective inspector John Hayward, who now co-ordinates the National Theft Register, and specialises in reuniting exotic birds with their owners, says there is no doubt the bird has changed hands.
“Arnie is an excellent talking bird who is over 20 years old. This isn’t just a case of the bird’s welfare and whereabouts, but about the owner too; he is very distressed.”
Arnie, who has a dark grey back, had a worn blue breeding ring on his leg when stolen. This shows silver in places.
Information can be passed to John on 01869 325699, police on 0161-856 9021, or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
