Conmen target pensioner

BOGUS workmen conned their way into the home a 92-year-old Greenfield man and stole cash and jewellery.
Two men knocked at the Shaw Street property between 4.50pm-5.30pm on Thursday claiming to be from the “Water Board”.
While the victim was distracted in the kitchen, one of the offenders stole a purse containing cash and a wedding ring.
It is believed the same pair may have targeted other victims in the area.
Both offenders were in their 30s, one white, the other of mixed race. One was wearing a natural- coloured raincoat and had dark curly hair; the other was all in black.
Det Sgt Paul Cockburn said: “You should put the chain on the door and ask callers who they are.
“The water board hasn’t existed for years — so if they say they are from the water board you know they are bogus.
“People without an appointment or identification should be treated as suspicious.”
