JAILED . . . Paul Jewitt
Three-month-old had bleed on brain
A DELPH man has been jailed for seven years after injuring a three-month-old baby who suffered a bleed on her brain.
Paul Jewitt (23), of Springwood, was found guilty of assault at Manchester Crown Court.
The baby’s mother noticed the tot had a mark on her cheek in July 2011. Jewitt claimed the baby had banged her face against a toy.
Two days later the child had bruising around her eyes after staying at Jewitt’s house when her family went shopping.
The child was unwell and struggling to breathe. She was taken to hospital where she suffered convulsions.
A CT scan confirmed the bleeding.
Police were contacted a day later and Jewitt arrested.
Detective Sergeant Karen Siddall, from the Public Protection Investigation Unit, said: “The baby was left with severe head and eye injuries. She had fractures to her leg and arm and was left bruised
“The fact this man could cause the pain he did to a defenceless and young baby sums up what type of person he is.”
