Blind faith of brave fundraiser

A fundraiser who spent a week blindfold to raise money for the National Blind Children’s Society has described the experience as “terrifying”.

Jordan Kehoe (23) had to rely on his other senses to avoid dangers in everyday life, helped by his girlfriend Sara Stevenson.

Jordan, of Greenfield, learned how to overcome challenges most people take for granted, from getting dressed in the morning to navigating pavements and buildings.

He said: “I was expecting it to be scary but it really was terrifying. I understand why people fear the unknown.

“When you are in your own home it is easier - you know the layout. But as soon as you step outside the front door everything feels alien.”

Jordan, an admin worker in Manchester, added: “It helped me to really understand the problems blind and partially-sighted people have to face.

“Sara was great but she was also pleased when it ended and she didn’t have to be responsible for me any more.”

The pair wrote a blog about the exprience (www.jordankehoe.wordpress.com), detailing how Jordan had coped, how Sara had adapted to being his carer and how people could donate to the cause.

Sara said: “It was very difficult guiding him. It was a nerve-racking week, I spent my time at work worrying about Jordan constantly and it made me realise how much time and patience a carer has to have.”

Jordan was named Fundraiser of the Month for his work with the charity.
