ON your marks, get set, go . . . the walk gets underway at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice in Royton
A RECORD number of people turned out for the Hospice to Hospice walk on Sunday.
More than 340 walkers took part in the event, which raised money for Dr Kershaw’s, Royton, and Springhill, Rochdale.
They donned fancy dress, joined groups walking in memory of a loved one... and managed to avoid the rain as they completed the seven and a quarter miles between the institutions.
Organiser Lisa Pearson of Dr Kershaw’ssaid the turnout was “phenomenal.”
Several large groups took part in the walk in memory of loved ones, including one walking for David Lane, who died in Dr Kershaw’s in December.
His son, Davey Jay Lane, was the youngest to take part in the event, at only six weeks old, and Lisa said: “He got his own medal in memory of his dad.”
The group has already raised more than £2,000 for the hospice.
Lisa added: “It’s going to raise a really healthy figure this year. We are so grateful to everyone who took part.”
