Family of six flee early-morning house fire
Date published: 15 April 2013
A FAMILY of six had a lucky escape when a family member woke to find the house on fire.
The man managed to get the family out of the house in Top Street, Greenacres.
The Fire Service’s Phil Stephenson said it could have been a different story if the man hadn’t woken when he did.
“He was a very light sleeper. The family was very very lucky.”
The fire - caused by an electrical fault in a drier in the kitchen - was discovered at 3am on Sunday. The house had no working smoke alarms.
Firefighters from Oldham fire station put out the flames and fitted smoke alarms before they left.
