Kids Wheelz to cut accidents
Date published: 19 April 2013
YOUNGSTERS aged 14 and over are being offered driving lessons.
Under-age drivers can get behind the wheel on private land in 15, 30 or 45-minute sessions run by Kids Wheelz in Hollinwood.
The lessons have proved popular since they were introduced at Salford City Reds ground in November, and will now also be held every month (from tomorrow) at the former Manchester Cabins site in Wickentree Lane.
The group is the brainchild of Shane Limer, who owns the Littleborough-based Limer School of Motoring which operates in Oldham, Rochdale and Bury.
Shane (43), from Oldham, said: “One in four people have an accident within six months of passing the driving test. In Sweden they have found that teaching people young reduces accidents by 60 per cent.”
Kids Wheelz lessons are taught on a special course and follow the Driving Standards Agency syllabus. Shane explained; “We start off with the basics then move on to junctions and manoeuvres. The lessons are ideal for nervous drivers too.”
