TAMESIDE is the UK’s “heart disease capital” — and Oldham doesn’t fare much better.
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) said people who live in Tamside are more likely to die from coronary heart disease than anywhere else in the UK.
Their risk is more than three times greater than lowest-risk in Kensington and Chelsea in London.
Tameside suffers 132 deaths for every 100,000 people a year — the London borough only 39 in 100,000.
Oldham came 37th of the 404 areas investigated. Oldham has 101 deaths for every 100,000 people.
The figures represent average death rates from 2009-2011.
