Stab victim: man cleared of murder
Date published: 19 April 2013
A MAN accused of helping his friend kill her uncle at a Sholver house in November 2012 has been cleared.
John Connolly (39) was accused of taking part in the attack in which Peter Watt was stabbed to death at a house on Coleridge Road.
Mr Connolly, of Wells Road, denied murder and stood trial at Manchester Crown Court alongside Bernadette Watt (29), the niece of the victim.
On the sixth day of the trial, Mr Connolly’s defence pleased a lack of evidence and that Conolly had no case to answer.
Judge Andrew Gilbart QC ruled in his favour. Watt, of Vincent Avenue, denies murder.
