Green light for sports centre

THE green light for Oldham’s new flagship sports centre was confirmed last night.
Proposals were confirmed for an eight-court sports hall designed to boost the area’s Olympic legacy.
The new centre, on the old Aldi site at Manchester Street/Cannon Street, will include, a 25-metre, eight-lane swimming pool, a learner pool, an eight-court sports hall, a four-lane indoor bowls hall, an 80-station gym/fitness suite and two group exercise/dance studios.
A new Royton sports centr will have a 25-metre, six-lane pool, a learner pool, a gym and fitness suite and two exercise and dance studios.
The exact location of this building has not yet been made public.
Councillor Hugh McDonald, cabinet member for education and safeguarding, said: “Once we get the facilities up and running people will see the advantages of it.”
