ANGER . . . Jordan Green
A RUGBY union fly-half was outraged when his business was slapped with a £3,500 fine for flyposting.
Jordan Green (25), who plays for Oldham RUFC, has been ordered to take down signs he puts up at weekends because they “degrade the environment”.
The Failsworth father-of-one runs Lincoln Jordan Interiors in Heaton Norris, Stockport and posts temporary signs on a grass verge outside his showroom to attract passing trade at weekends.
He was fined £3,500 by Stockport magistrates after admitting 10 charges of illegal advertising on the highway.
He said: “The Government and councils try and make out they want to help small businesses and encourage manufacturing — but this is only going to hurt firms like mine. The signs are temporary: they only go up at weekends and don’t harm anyone.”
Stockport Council said it has removed several illegal signs from the Green Lane Trading Estate off the M60 and warned Jordan several times.
Councillor Kevin Hogg of Stockport Council said: “When warnings are ignored and further incidents occur, like in this case, the council will consider prosecution.”
But Mr Green claims he has been “stalked” by the council for two years. “They were even working on Easter Sunday, waiting for us to put the signs out. Haven’t they got anything better to do?”
