Westminster role for Oldham student
MOORSIDE teenager Nathan Jordan has been appointed vice-chairman of a new youth select committee which will meet at Westminster.
Nathan (16), a pupil at Oasis Academy MediaCityUK, Salford, said his role would be a great opportunity to represent the North-West and Oasis, which sponsors academies across the country.
He added: “It is also a perfect opportunity to show young people in the best light.”
The 11-strong group mirrors the UK parliament select committee structure and gives young people the opportunity to scrutinise and hold inquiries into topics that interest them.
The committee will look at the role of the education system and the national curriculum in equipping young people with so-called life skills.
The British Youth Council recruited committee members aged from 11 to 18 with a range of interests from across the country.
