A MAN has appeared at Bury Magistrates Court faced with a charge of attempted murder.
Mark Pierson (48), of Belfield Road, Rochdale, was remanded in custody until his next hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court on May 17.
The charge follows reports that Gillian Kay (pictured), head teacher at Propps Hall Primary School, Failsworth, was stabbed nine times in the face and neck with a screwdriver, as she arrived at her Thornham home on Thursday afternoon.
She was airlifted to Wythenshawe Hospital but has since been released.
