A RETIRED policeman who followed a robbery suspect who carried a shotgun in Delph has been presented with the Chief Constable’s High Commendation for Bravery.

Simon Nuttall, who served for 30 years before becoming a builder, was out for lunch in the village in January 2012 and heard about a robbery taking place at a local chemist.

Despite knowing the man was armed, Mr Nuttall followed him and informed police. When he was spotted, the gunman fired two shots. Both missed as Mr Nuttall found cover, and the chase continued.

A GMP helicopter and officers were guided to the gunman by Mr Nuttall. The man was arrested and later went to prison for four years for robbery and firearms offences.
