AWARD: winner Moinul Islam is thrilled to have his work recognised by the Bangladeshi community
A CHILDREN’S author from Chadderton has received a national award in recognition of his community work.
Moinul Islam, a head of house at Oldham Academy North, won the Channel S award, judged by a panel of professionals from the Bangladeshi community.
The only candidate from the North-West, Moinul was recognised for his book Anisha’s Adventures.
The former Pride in Oldham nominee was inspired by his daughter to write the bedtime story.
He said: “I was thrilled when I was shortlisted. The thought of winning such a prestigious award, which was like the Oscars, never came to my mind. It’s a great feeling to be recognised.”
Mr Islam also helps to teach traditional Asian and non-mainstream games, such as kabaddi, with community sports provider Outta Skool.
The Channel S awards have been handing out prizes for six years to recognise achievements by the British Bangladeshi community. The awards attract hundreds of nominations.
The ceremony, attended by celebrity guests and politicians, was aired live on Channel S, one of the world’s most popular Asian channels.
