FIREFIGHTER tried to save the life of a Staffordshire bull terrier after it became stuck fast with her playing partner on Merton playing fields, in Werneth, last night.
A freak accident saw two dogs get tangled in a choke chain, which needed Hollins fire crew to cut to free the pets.
Watch manager Andy Turner said: “Despite our best efforts to revive the smaller female with CPR and providing oxygen, she died from strangulation.
“The other pet, also a Staffordshire bull terrier, suffered injuries to his mouth and the family were left distraught by the ordeal.”
He added: “As fire officers we are trained in dealing and helping animals in these situations.”
