OLDHAMERS will be able to travel as far as Didsbury when a new Metrolink line opens months ahead of schedule next week.
The 2.7 mile extension to the current line offers a direct link between Rochdale, Oldham, Manchester city centre and the south-Manchester suburb.
New stops are at Withington, Burton Road, West Didsbury, Didsbury Village and East Didsbury.
By the time new lines to Ashton (due for completion this winter) Oldham and Rochdale town centres (by 2014) and Manchester Airport via Wythenshawe (by 2016) are complete, the network will serve 92 stops and cover 59 miles — more than three times the original 18.5-mile network that opened in 1992.
