Charity champion dies at 94

A Pride in Oldham nominee who raised over £500,000 for charities has died at the age of 94.

Mary Agnes Buckley, from Glodwick, was a retired nurse who worked on the children’s ward at the former Oldham and District General Hospital.

She dedicated over 40 years to raising money for good causes, including the Mayor’s Appeal, Macmillan Nurses, Age Concern, Arthritis Research and children’s holiday homes. She was nominated for a Pride in Oldham award in 2003.

Mrs Buckley was married to Fred, who died 30 years ago. They had two daughters, Anita and Barbara, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs Buckley spent the last 12 months of her life at Longwood Lodge care home in Glodwick, where she died on Sunday. Her death has been reported to the coroner.
