Join the cue to take on Steve Davis

Date published: 24 May 2013

SNOOKER legend Steve Davis — who made history in Oldham 30 years ago — is returning to the borough — as the star attraction at this year’s Saddleworth Summer Show in July.

Steve won more professional titles in the sport than any other player - including six world titles and the Lada Classic, staged at Oldham’s QE Hall in 1982, at which he famously made the first televised maximum break of 147.

But it will be a different ball game this time: he will take on all-comers in a marathon charity pool challenge.

Members of the audience will get the chance to play him in return for a donation to Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.

Show organisers will ensure the circus really does come to town at the area’s biggest two-day event on July 13-14 at Saddleworth School in Uppermill.

The main family attraction will be Circus Sensible, staging two action-packed comedy shows each day in a baby big top. Circus staff will also provide circus skills workshops throughout the weekend.

All proceeds this year will be donated to Rotary charities and support the BBC Radio Manchester Christie Million Pound Appeal.

The event will also feature more indoor and outside displays, from falconry and chainsaw woodcarving to brass bands, llamas and exotic breeds, drystone walling, sheep shearing, donkey rides, children’s go-karts, a fun fair and a climbing wall.

Steve’s charity pool games will take place on the Sunday.
