THE father of murdered soldier Lee Rigby has thrown his support behind his local pub’s Help for Heroes fundraiser.
The Hathershaw Hotel has vowed to raise money for the military charity in honour of drummer Lee, from Langley, horrifically murdered in London last week.
Landlady Melissa Royales says Philip McClure — or “Geordie” as he’s known to friends — who lives in Bardsley, is fully behind the pub’s fun day on June 30 and will attend.
“The pub is Philip’s local and we wanted to show our support but also we want people to come together as a community and show their support.”
Already locals have raised £600, despite only announcing the event on Sunday.
“So many people have donated already including the staff who are donating the day’s wages and two DJs are donating theirs,” added Melissa. “We’re aiming to raise over £5,000.”
